Beneath an old brick wall, three old friends meet to play together. The bamboo flute rings clear, the erhu is sweet and lilting; a music stand stands before them, and instruments and a small pushcart are set down casually. Dappled tree shadows fall on a bench. There is no ornate stage—only the love in their hearts gives rise to the music. On an ordinary afternoon, unhurried melodies drift through the streets; this is the lively warmth of everyday life that belongs to ordinary people.
